What is NIP-05 and why do I need it?
NIP-05 is the Nostr standard that maps a human-readable handle (like alice@balthazar.sh) to your Nostr public key. When set, most clients show a ✓ checkmark next to your name — making your identity discoverable and verified.
Do you hold my keys or any personal data?
No. NIP-05 is purely a public mapping from your name to your public key. Your private key never leaves your device. We only store the name you chose and your public key (npub). No email, no account, no personal data.
What happens when my year is up?
You'll receive a Nostr DM reminder before your registration expires. To renew, send another 10,000 sats with the same memo format. Your handle stays yours as long as you renew.
My wallet doesn't support payment memos. What do I do?
Most modern Lightning wallets (Phoenix, Mutiny, Zeus, Breez) support memos. If yours doesn't, try a wallet that does. Payments without the correct memo format cannot be automatically matched — DM balthazar on Nostr if you get stuck.
Can I use a hyphen or number in my name?
Yes to both. Hyphens and numbers are allowed — for example john-doe or satoshi21. Spaces and underscores are not. All lowercase, max 30 characters.
